NATURAL STONE CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Slate is a hard, compact yet porous natural stone that ranges from medium to dark gray, black, or green. It has a matte and satin finish and is known for its impermeability, division into thin layers, resistance, and durability.
- Dry clean the dust from the slate surface using a soft cloth or a brush with soft, non-metallic bristles, avoiding harsh movements that may cause scratches.
- Moisten or dampen a soft, clean cloth free of oils, and clean the surface. Remove excess moisture with a dry cloth.
- To remove stains from a specific area, apply a mixture of water and pH-neutral soap.
- Avoid placing hot objects directly on the slate; use cloths or pads for protection.
Avoid exposing the stone to grease and oils, as these substances can penetrate the porous surface and cause difficult-to-remove stains. - Do not use bleach or chlorine, as they can discolor the stone, damaging its characteristic dark tone. Also, avoid vinegar or oil-based chemicals.
IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER
For both marble and slate, it’s essential to remember that being natural products, they may present variations in tone and veining, and in some cases, cracks or fissures due to their natural origin.
